2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Russia

Diamond Quilts by Jan Krentz

The Olympics are coming! The Olympics are coming! I want to alert you to the Winter Olympics, and their theme artwork — Diamond Quilts

My book, Diamond Quilts & Beyond, was translated into Russian a few years ago. I have the only inventory of these beautiful books (in English) and you can get one at a discounted price!

Learn about the "fabric" imagery in the diamond theme, and the inspiration behind the artwork.

There is a resemblance between my diamond quilt designs and the colorful exuberant designs for the Sochi Olympics. Please watch, be inspired, and SHARE THIS INFORMATION with your quilting friends!

Libby Lehman Update!

Libby at home

Many of you are following the daily victories of our quilting friend, fellow teacher, and mentor, Libby Lehman. She has amazed everyone with her hard work, determination and persistence in her physical rehabilitation.

Libby healed and her skills improved so much that the doctors "signed her out" and sent her home! What a joyous occasion for Libby, husband Lester and son Les!

To follow Libby's journey and write an encouraging note from time to time, please go to Libby's Caring Bridge journal location:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/libbylehman/journal

"Team Libby" is a loving family support system, and family members take turns writing a journal entry to keep Libby's loving fans abreast of her care and improvements.

Libby wins Rice University Distinguished Alumni Award!

(exerpt from Libby's Journal on 1/28/14):

"Lester just received a phone call from Robert (Bob) L. Clarke (former Comptroller of the Currency during the Reagan and Bush administrations and head of the Rice University Alumni Association) informing Lester that Libby has won the Rice University Distinguished Alumni Award for 2014! Wow, what a huge honor!"

Libby received a huge honor and recognition this week! Libby catches up on quilting news!

She is also catching up on the latest quilty news...

My Teaching Schedule

January was a great month of engagements, and I met with quilters in Napa Valley, Danville and Lafayette, California. It was great to see familiar faces, meet new friends, and design new quilt projects together! I was lucky enough to attend the Road to California in Ontario on Sunday, and am truly amazed at the beautiful quilts

In February, I'll be on the road to Dallas and back again to the greater San Francisco East Bay area, in Fairfield, CA. March takes me to fabulous Pigeon Forge, Tennessee!

Catch all the details on my Teaching Schedule—I keep it updated so I will know where to ship my luggage next!

I look forward to seeing you in a future quilt meeting or workshop!

What's On the Design Wall?

A few newsletters ago, I think I told you of a friendship project a few of my bee members and I were embarking upon...... We purchased men's shirts from local second hand stores, laundered them and each member cut from the collective "stash".

I sewed during home studio time late last fall, creating my own interpretation of Anita Grossman Solomon's "Self-Mitered Log Cabin" from her book, Rotary Cutting Revolution.

Sylvia Fox did a beautiful job machine-quilting a lovely pattern on the extra-long twin bed-sized quilt.

Happy Stitching, and may all your corners meet!  Fondly,
