Spring 2015 Greeetings
Happy Spring! I hope you are enjoying the spring weather in your part of the world! Here in the greater San Diego area, it seems we just skipped winter and went straight back into summer again. Some of last week's temps were in the mid-90's. WHEW! This is a great time of year for sprucing up your home and clearing out the sewing room! Are you doing any "stash-busting" quilts to reduce your fabric stash? I just took a class last week at Empty Spools Seminars, which hosts five workshop sessions each spring. I studied for 5 days with David Taylor, from Steamboat Springs. We were to select a single picture, an image of an animal, bird, or similar subject. The image would then be enlarged, and we learned David's technique to create stylized shapes within the subject, and how to render the design in a life-like applique quilt. FIRST, let me say, applique is not what I teach, so I was a student along with everyone else! Here is my little orange crab image, and my beginning applique piece in progress by the end of class: |
David is a great teacher, and the class session was really relaxing! I saw many old friends while at Asilomar, it was like a reunion week! TEACHING A CLASS IN THE SAN DIEGO AREA! I have been blessed to have 3 local workshops this spring! I presented a Hunter Star workshop for Poway's Friendship Quilters in February, and a different Hunter Star workshop for the Scripps Ranch Village Quilters in March. If you were unable to attend either of those workshops, but want to join me for the Rainbow Split Broken Star workshop, NOW is your opportunity!
This is an older picture of me working on a small version of the split broken star—they are great whether you make a large or small size! The 2-day workshop: Where: Memory Lane Quilt Shop, 1626 N. Magnolia Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92020 When: April 11-12, 2015, from 9am to 4pm. Who to call: Register with Bobbie or Chris at Memory Lane: (619) 562-2288 or contact Bobbie by e-mail: bobbie@memorylanequiltshop.com. There is some advanced preparation to do before class if you want to get farther along. I would love to see you in class! Now, I must get unpacked from Asilomar, and re-pack for the workshop in El Cajon! Drop me a note and let me know what you have been up to! Warmly, |
