Flying to Maine
Friday, May 1st, 2009
Today was a travel day – Don and I got up about 3:45 am, and left home at 4:15. After arrival at San Diego Lindburgh Airport, I learned my 6:27am flight would be delayed due to weather issues in the Chicago area. We took off about 90 minutes late. I changed planes in Chicago and flew to Portland, Maine.
The 2nd flight landed about 90 minutes later than expected (about 6pm), and my friend Carol met me at the airport. We learned that the luggage would be on the next flight, so we decided to wait for it rather than driving to Waterville (about 75 miles away).
We asked about local Portland restaurants, and ended up going to the Miss Portland Diner – a historic little place that has been moved to its current site and restored.
After dinner, we drove all over the place in the dark killing time until the next plane arrived, eventually ended up at UNO pizza for a late dessert and hot tea. About 10pm we returned to the airport, ready for that 10:20 flight………… which was delayed until about 11:10 pm.
Hallelujah! The bags arrived!! Carol drove me from Portland to Waterville – and we arrived at the hotel about 1 am. She still drove on to Mercer, another 30-45 minutes. What a long day!! THANK YOU, CAROL!!!
